GEORGIA POWER COMPANY VOGTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT - UNITS 1 AND 2 NRC DOCKET NOS. 50-424 AND 50-425 FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NOS. NPF-68 AND NPF-81 INTRODUCTION The Vogtle Electric Generating Plant Units 1 and 2 are powered by pressurized water reactors, each rated at 3565 megawatts thermal. It is located on the Savannah River in Burke County Georgia,34 miles southeast of Augusta. The Unit 1 operating license was received on January 16,1987 and commercial operation started on May 31,1987. Unit 1 is operating in its sixth fuel cycle. Unit 2 received its operating license on February 9, 1989, began commercial operation on May 20,1989. Unit 2 is operating in its fifth fuel cycle.
