SUBJECT:
Callaway Plant - Remedial Alert and Notification Exercise This memo is to confirm our understanding that our office will be notified of a date, on or before April 21, 1984, when a remedial exercise of the Callaway Alert and Notification System can be conducted. This is necessitated by the fact that eleven of the twelve sirens in Callaway County failed to operate.
7-'
~. We feel that the last minute change for the State to be responsible for EBS
?
notification should also be retested to ensure fifteen minute notification to the public.
Please note that these sirens are designed to alert everyone within the entire emergency planning zone not covered by tone alert radios. All of these sirens are to be utilized simualtaneously within all subareas. This differs from tornado warnings which would permit selective siren activation.
The sirens would be followed by EBS messages designed to notify residents and transients if they are in the affected areas.
\\
Therefore, during the remedial exercise we will expect the following coordination between the State of Missouri, the four counties and the utility to demonstrate:
- 1) Notification of off-site authorities that the public will need to be 5-alerted.
- 2) Activation of EBS.
T:i
- 0) Simultaneous sounding of sirens in all four counties.
?
- 4) Fif teen minute. notification of, the public.
It you have any questions concerning this matter, feel free to contact me at any time at (816) 374-2161 or (FTS) 758-2161.
