[External_Sender] Holtec Nuclear Wast "Interim Storage" Comment Greetings, Any plan to transport and "temporarily" dump large amounts of high level nuclear waste in one location WITHOUT a solid plan for permanent disposal is criminal! Once this waste is transported at great cost and risk to all Americans, there will be NO political will or money to find a permanent storage site. The Holtec sites, by default, will become permanent, leaving New Mexicans (and Texans) to pay the price in lost jobs, poisoned water, soil, air, food and health for many generations.

The NRC states there will be no environmental impact in transporting 70,000 tons of spent fuel across the country and storing it for up to 120 years! This is an obscene proposal which will make a few people very rich and leave American taxpayers, N.M and Texas Citizens to pay the price. This is unjust and unacceptable.

This sounds to me like a plan to pacify the owners of the current, aging nuclear power plants, enrich a few and make the NRC look like it is doing something. Your sequence is mistaken.

Store the spent fuel rods in dry storage on site, pour money into research on how to detoxify/decontaminate radioactive waste and find a safe PERMANENT storage site.
