l Attention: Mr. James P. O'Reilly l

Gentlemen:

l Georgia Power Company has been conducting an investigation into this i

event as previously outlined in our letter GN-240 dated 7-11-83. The field inspection program; however, was modified to include weld size as an additional variable. Georgia Power Company has identified a total of four hundred and forty-seven (447) installed embed plate supports. Of these, fifty-four (54) were randomly selected for visual inspections and magnetic particle testing on all flare bevel welds made to the embed plate or sur-face mounted plates. No lamellar tearin the inspection of these fifty-four (54) g indications were identified in samples.

Georgia Power Company intends to use the results of the inspection of the fifty-four (54) assemblies in its evaluation of this concern for reportability pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 50.55(e) and 10 CFR 21.

Georgia Power Company expects to submit a final report on the results of this evaluation by February 17, 1984.

This response contains no proprietary information and may be placed in the NRC Public Document Room upon receipt.
