LR-N95070 United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Gentlemen:
HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION OPERATION OF THE DECONTANINATION SOLUTION EVAPORATOR DOCKET NO. 50-354 On April 5, 1995, the Hope Creek Generating Station experienced an unplanned release of radiological material from the south plant vent.
The cause of this release was attributed to the operation of the Decontamination Solution Evaporator (DSE), which has since been secured from service.
The purpose of this letter is document the following PSE&G commitments relative to the operation of the DSE:
- 1) the DSE has been secured from service and will remain so until appropriate corrective actions that will prevent recurrence are developed and implemented; and
- 2) the NRC will be informed of these corrective actions and have the opportunity to review them prior to placing the DSE back into service.
The above commitments were made by Hope Creek management to the NRC inspection team investigating the April 5th event.
