Restart of TMI Gentlemen:
In your deliberations on December 19th, we urge your consideration of the enclosed positions which we have expressed on behalf of our constituents:
1.
The results of a County-wide referendum in which our citizens voted two to one against restart.
2.
Our resolution of support for Dauphin County.
3.
Our letter of October 6, 1983 to the Commission.
Our citizens do not feel that TMI should ever restart as a nuclear facility.
Further, we urge that your meeting on the 19th and any subsequent meetings be fully open to the public.

In response to numerous requests from Cumberland County citizens, the following non-binding opinion poll was placed on the May 18, 1982 Primary Ballot:
"Do you favor the restart of TMI Unit I, which was not involved in the accident of March 28, 1979?"
YES NO The results County-wide were:
6,800 - YES 12,548 - NO We sincerely hope that these results will be utilized in the ongoing deliberations relating to the decision to be made on the restart of Unit I.

BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, CUMBERLAND COUNTY, CARLISLE, PENNSYLVANIA RESOLUTION 83-7 WHEREAS, the specter of TMI, and the accompanying uncertainty, has loomed over the p2ople of central Pennsylvania since March, 1979, and WHEREAS, the people of Cumberland County voted against the restart of TMI, in a public and open referendum, in the amount of 2-1, and WHEREAS, the people of Cumberland County have clearly demonstrated and expressed their opinion that they desire a swift, safe and sure resolution to this matter; BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of Cumberland County strongly support the Commissioners of Dauphin Ccunty, adding our voice to their request that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission proceed with the decontamination of TMI and thereon close both Unit I and Unit II of TMI, removing the uncertainty and threat from the people of our counties once and for all.
