-This special report is being submitted in accordance with LaSalle Unit 1
. Operating License NPT-11, Technical Specifications 3.3.7.12 and 6.6.c, regarding a Unit 1 Loose Parts Monitor System Test Failure.
-On Asgust 6, 1991, with-LaSalle Unit I at 100% power, the Loose Parts W nitor=.(LPM) system channel'12 was determined to be defective due to the loss of the normal background noise.
This def9ct could possibly prevent the channel.from. producing an alarm.
The apparent cause of the channel degradation is unknown at this time.
Due to monthly channel testing, it has been determined that the problem
-does not exist inside the monitor itself.

At the time ot the event, the LPH system was required for Unit 1, but one-inoperable channel does not prevent the system from performing its design O
function.:
