Dear Dr. Murley:

NRC IE BULLETIN NO. 83-06, DATED JULY 22, 1983

" NONCONFORMING MATERIALS SUPPLIED BY TUBE-LINE CORPORATION FACILITIES AT LONG ISLAND CITY NEW YORK; HOUSTON, TE XAS ; AN D CAROL STREAM, ILLINOIS "

HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION In reply to the subject NRC IE Bulletin, we offer the following at.this time:

The list of companies purchasing and receiving Tube-Line fittings in subject Bulletin has been reviewed.

Suppliers who provided ASME Section III fittings for the Hope Creek Project have been contacted and all but four suppliers have replied.

We will advise the NRC when their replies are received.

Materials received from Colt Industries is being reviewed-in-house and we will also advise you when this review is completed.

With the exception of two suppliers responding, all others have indicated that no Tube-Line fittings were furnished to the Hope Creek Generating Station:

The two suppliers indi-cating their use of Tube-Line fittings provided a total of 578 fittings on four purchase orders.

T hese fittings, iden-F tified by heat numbers, have been grouped as follows:

1) not installed and being held in the warehouse on OC " hold,"

2) installed in non-O systems, and 3) in process of be ing

-nB installed.

For the last group (being installed), a review Ng' of construction documents to verify that unacceptable fitt-58 ings have not been installed in O systems is ongoing, and to g

to date, no questionable fittings have been identified as being installed in O systems.

nt au n'O The Tube-Line records for relevant fittings are being 3%

reviewed to determine whether these particular fittings are 3

or can be made acceptable for use in O systems.

If this ME effort is unsuccessful, the fittings found in a O system will be cut out and replaced.

Uninstalled fittings will be downgraded for use in non-O systems.

0 6Wg i,(,

-a Dr. Thomas E. Murley 11/21/83 We expect to complete this entire review by February 28, 1984, and will respond at - that time.

Should additional information be desired before that date, we will be pleased

-to discuss it with you.
