Dear Mr. Bernard:
During our review of the SER, NUREG-0996, for the University of Oklahoma Research Reactor, Docket No. 50-112, several errors have been noted by the staff. None of these errors affect the conclusions reached in the SER.
Section 1.3 The Naval Air Technical Training Center is no longer in operation.
Figure 1.5 Support structure for the reactor is not as depicted in the drawing.
Section 2.3 Reference to the Naval Air Technical Training Center is not necessary.
Section 4.1 Paragraph four of this section incorrectly states the dose rates at 15 W and 100 W power as 0.09 mR/hv and 0.6 mR/hr respectively.
These should read 1.5 mR/hr at 15 W and 10.0 mR/hr at 100 W operation.
This error was communicated to the NRC contractors at Los Alamos but since the room is locked during reactor operation and additional shielding above the reactor will be in place during operation above 50 W, it was concluded the reactor could still be operated safely.
The Radiation Safety Officer will be closely involved to insure dose levels above 10 CFR 20 in unre-stricted areas are not exceeded.
Section 7.2.2 The water purification system scrams were eliminated during discussion with NRC and the NRC contractors from Los Alamos.
Thank you for your help during the relicensing of the Oklahoma reactor.
Sincerely yours, Crai nsen Rea or Director CMJ:feo Ohho!$o$fjp PDR b
