Vogtle Electric Generating Plant - Units 1 and 2, 50-424, 50-425 Strut Channel Installation Deficiencies Attention: Mr. James P. O'Reilly Gentlemen:
On October 17, 1983, Georgia Power Company's C. W. Hayes reported a potential deficiency to Mr. H. Dance of the NRC concerning discrepancies in the installation of strut channel. This potential deficiency involved discrepancies in the alignment of the spring nut used for fastening cable tray suppor% to strut channels.
At this time, Georgia Power Company is procuring special fiber-optics equipment that will be used to evaluate a representative sample of strut channel installations. The results of the sample evaluation will be used to determine actions required to resolve this item.
Georgia Power Company cannot forecast an estimated completion date for this potential deficiency evaluation at this time. An interim report with a schedule for completion of the evaluation will be submitted to the NRC by December 22, 1983.
