D'ent Dhl Numtwr November 17, 1983 SNRC-982 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 Submittal of the Shoreham Specific " Suppression Pool Local to Bulk Temperature Difference Report" Shoreham Nuclear Power Station - Unit 1 Docket No. 50-322

Dear Mr. Denton:

In fulfillment of the commitment to quantify the Shoreham specific local to bulk temperature difference, enclosed are forty (40) copies of the plant specific report, " Suppression Pool Local to Bulk Temperature Difference, Shoreham Nuclear Power Station - Unit 1".

The report concludes that the preliminary local to bulk temperature difference of 100F, as reported in Appendix I of the Shoreham Design Analysis Report ( DAR) , is conservative.

LILCO believes the information presented in the " Suppression Pool Local to Bulk Temperature Difference" report, in conjunction with the results in Appendix I of the DAR, provides the NRC with the verification that the maximum local pool temperature specification will not be exceeded. However, if any additional information is required, please contact this office.

Very truly yours,
