Individualized Learning Center Course Catalog Spring / Summer 1991 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Office of Penonnel
. lune 17,1991
i About the Incividualizeci Learning Center The Individualized 1.carning Center (ILC) has added numcious new programs to its catalog. The programs are available to you at the ILC or through the new lending library option.
The catalog describes first how to register when taking training at the Woodmont ILC facility. If you choose instead to take training available through the ILC lending library, the next section describes the lending library registration process. The remainder of the catalog describes the ILC's programs. All the inionnation you need to use the ILC programs is in this catalog. Ilowever, please give us a call nr.ytime you wish to verify or request additional information, or if you would like to preview new programs or recommend new purchases. Tawanda Swann, the ILC Administrator, is on 492-4514 or I am on 492-8526.
The combination of video and computer, called interactive video disk, is a powerful
..ay to demonstrate or teach. To be announced in the next ILC catalog is new interactive video equipment offering five plant walk throughs. These walk throughs are visual tours of power plants showing what a plant and its components look like.
Even more exciting about this technology is the individual's option to control the walk-through by choosing a path or a place in a plant, and with the help of a " joy stick," control the pace, direction, and view of the walk. The video pictures are stored on videodiscs and are controlled by a 386 computer. Two monitors are used, one to show place and direction, the o'her to show plant pictures. For those who want to capture a picture on paper, printer capability is attached. Look for further announcements on this when the equipment is in place and ready for your use.
Many of you have already taken advantage of the opportunity to leam new knowledge and skills by requesting training through the ILC that best fits your schedule. The programs are modular, muti media, structured, and easy to use. All are welcomed at the ILC.

Planning Your Own Training:
Although calning is a management resource, learning is a personal action that requires your attention, need, and desire to increase your personal capabilities. The learning Center is your resource to select and tailor your learning experiences. It is designed to help you meet the following types of need:
1
. personal Development
. Supplement Classroom Training: Before or After Classroom Training
. Substitute for Classroom Training l
Learning Center programs offer more concentrated individualized instruction than a traditional classroom experience. Controlling what you wish to do and working at your own pace are highly efficient means of Icarning. For maximum effectiveness, we recommend you schedule a few bdef sessions of 2 3 hours3.472222e-5 days
8.333333e-4 hours
4.960317e-6 weeks
1.1415e-6 months
each in the quiet environment of the Learning Center for most courses. Self paced learning depends on good concentretion. Short sessions will result in greater retention of information.
Time estimates are included in the course descriptions to help you plan your schedule.
I Coune numbers are designed so that the first letter corresponds to the type of media:
A for audio, C for computer based, V for videotapes, and W for workbooks. Some courses may involve both audio and video, so read coune descriptions carefully.
