20555 This special report is sutmtted in accordance with LaSalle Units 1 and 2 Operating Ucenses NPF-11 and NPF-18, Appendix A, and Technical Specification Sections 4.8.1.1.3 and 6.6.c regarding Unit 0 Diesel Generator (DG, ODG01K), manufactured by Electro-Motive Division of General Motors Corporation (Model EMD 20-645E4).
j On March 1,1995, with LaSalle Unit 1 at power and LaSalle Unit 2 defueled, the Unit 0 Diesel Generator (DG) was operating in accordance with LaSalle Operating Surveillance LOS-DG-SA1, 'O Diesel Generator Test with Response Time". After performing a one-hour full load run synchronized with offsite power through the Unit i System Auxiliary Transformer (SAT), the Nuclear Station Operation (NSO) synchronized the 0 DG through i
the Unit 2 SAT. At this time, the O DG tripped due to reverse power. This failure is not a l
valid failure in accordance with Regulatory Guide 1.108 and Technical Specification

l The breaker closed without incident, but as the NSO began to reopen the breaker, the 0 DG tripped on Reverse Power. The O DG trip may have been caused by a voltage fluctuation on the offsite power grid. LOS-DG-SA1 is being reviewed to ensure it provides proper instructions to minimize the possibility of motorizing the generator.
The surveillance was subsequently completed satisfactorily on March 1,1995.
