CHICAGO, ILLINOIS 60604 L PRO 4 REPLY TO ATTENTION OF 31 OCT 1983 3h Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhuet Director, Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 RE: NEPA-FE-NRC-F06017-Wl(83106)

Dear Mr. Eisenhuet:

s The United States Environmental Protection Agency has reviewed the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for repair of steam generators at the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No.1, located in the Town of Two Creeks, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. Wisconsin Electrical Power Company plans to replace major components including tube bundles for both steam generators, during the six month refueling outage scheduled to begin September 30, 1983.

Based on our review of the draft EIS for this project, we found the environmental impacts of the proposed action be minor. Since the action proposed in the final EIS is the same as that proposed in the draft, we have no objections to the implementation of the project.

Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on the final EIS for the steam generator repair at the Point Beach Nuclear Plant. If you have any questions about our review, please call Mr. Wayne Elson of my staff at 312/886-6693.

Sincerely yours, O

Barbara Taylor Backley, hief f
