Subject t 4 Hour Battery Capability During Station Blackout M Purcose The purpose of this calculation is to demonstrate that the presently installed 125 VDC Class IE station batterics have adequate capacity to power the plant vital loads for the duration of a station blackout. The required station blackcut coping duration has been determined in Reference 6 to be 4-hourc. This esiculation will also analyze whether the batteries have sufficient capacity remaining in the last minute of the coping duration for field flashing of the diesel generator. In addition, this calculation wjll demonstrate that the batteries can support' the load requirements needed to close breakers in the first step of load sequencing to the diesel.

1. The operating current of General Electric Auxiliary relays (typically HGA type Aux. relay) is .04 A.

( Publication GE 7293 dated 4/20/81 )

2. Minimum voltage level at the inverter input terminals will be 105 VDC. ( Reference 2 )
3. 2 - Diesel generator field flashing attempts are considered. One attempt in the first minute of SBo, and one additional attempt in the last minute of the coping duration.
4. The time duration required to confirm the onset of Station Blackout subsequent to the loss of offsite power, is considered to be very short, and therefore is not included as an addition to the 4-hour coping duration.
5. The closing circuit coil, which releases the latch for the breaker close spring to actuste, requires the same current as the trip coil
6. The Diesel Generator breaker (4160 V) requires the same closing coil current as breakers in 4160 V Swgr - 1AA02.

Subject 4 Hour Battery Capability During Station Blackout M gritgria and Data

1. The plant is initially at 100 % rated thermal power.

(Ref. 5)

2. Station Blackout occurs at time T = 0, on total loss of offsite power, concurrent with a failure of all Emergency Diesel Generators (EDG's) to start. (Ref. 5)
3. No single failure or design basis accident occurs during Station Blackout conditions. (Ref. 10CTR LO.63, June 21, 1988)
4. Loads needed to achieve and maintain the plant in a safe, Hot-Shutdown condition will be considered.

Also, automatically initiated loads will be considered unless manual actions are taken to dis-connect or remove them.

5. AC power is restored either from offsite sources or the EDG's, 4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
or loss after the onset of an SBO.

This is based on a coping duration of 4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
.

(Ref. 6) ,

6. The batteries have a minimum electrolyte temperature of 70* F. (Ref. Attachment 3)
7. Each battery has 59 Lead-Calcium cells. The normal specific gravity of the electrolyte at 77* F is 1.215 +/ .005. (Ref. 1, Sheets 5 and 7)

, 8. End of battery life margin of 25 % will be maintained by using a 1.25 multiplier, listed as " Aging Factor",

i on the battery sizing worksheet.

9. The minimum final cell voltages (last minute of the 4-hour load profile) will be as follows: (Ref. 2)

Train A 1.86 V / cell Train B 1.86 V / cell Train C 1.835 V / cell Train D 1.80 V / cell

10. The circuit breaker spring charging motors of the 13.8 KV, 4.16 KV and 480 V switchgear, do not operate until AC power in restored and the breakers close.

(Ref. 1) .

11. For Train C, only one, 125 VDC motor operated valve will be operated at a time.
12. The loading on inverter 1DD1I4 will not exceed 80 %

of the inverter capacity. Panel 1DY1B is the only load on this. inverter and it has a maximum loading of 48 A. (Ref. 1X3D-AA-G02A, Rev. 11)

13. This calculation does not consider a design margin of 10 % for future load growth. Subsequent addition to the load profile will require analysis on a case-by-case basis.
14. The input current required for inverterc 1AD1I11 and 1BD1112 is calculated using the actual connected load values. Any loads added to these inverters will require a review for potential impact to this calculation and calculation X3CH01.
15. Inverters 1AD1II, 1BD1I2, and ICD 1I3 will not be loaded more than 6 KW ( 7. 5 KVA * . 8 pf )

with a minimum voltage of 105 V, and an efficiency as listed on Attachment 4. ( Ref. 1X6AR07-35-2 and Attachment 4 )

16. On loss of all AC power, all incoming switchgear

, breakers will trip, except, the 480 V breakers that 4 l

' supply the Mcc's and the 4160 V breakers feeding the load centers. These breakers will remain closed.

(Ref. 1, Sheet 11)

17. Switchgear indicating lights, GE type ET-16, are each rated for 0.05 Amps at 125 VDC. A maximum of 2 indicating lights are "on" for each 480 V switchgear circuit. A maximum of 3 lights are "on" for each 4.16 KV switchgear circuit. (Ref. 1 Sheet 11)

Subject : 4 Hour Battery capability During Station Blackout LQ Results/ Conclusion A summary of connected loads, and a loading profile were developed for the 125 VDC Class IE batteries. A battery sizing calculation based on the criteria of IEEE 405-1983 was then completed for each battery load profile.

Theti the sized battery was compared to the actual in-stalled battery. As shown in the table below, the actual installed battery sizes are equivalent to, or larger than the size required to support a 4-hour SBO.

Summary of Battery Sizing Calculations:

Calculated Installed Train Battery Size Batterv size Conclusion A LCY-37 LCY-37 Acceptable B LCY-37 LCY-37 Acceptable C LC-17 LC-17 Acceptable D KC-15 KC-21 Acceptable Therefore, each installed battery is adequately sized to maintain the plant in Hot Shutdown modo for c period of 4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
. This is equivalent to the required SBO coping duration time of 4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
. The batteries can maintain the plant 125 VDC Class IE loads for the entire length of an SB0 4-hour coping duration, and have adequate reserve to provide a field flashing for the Diesel Generator and close breakers in the final minute of this duty cycle. ,
