Attention: Mr. James P. O'Reilly Gentlemen:
In our previous correspondence to the NRC, Georgia Power Company indi-cated that the NRC would be notified by March 9,1984, of the results of our evaluation of the use of an unverified computer code in the design of main feedwater pipe supports. Georgia Power Company has completed its review and evaluation of this event and has concluded that it is not reportable pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 50.55 (e) and 10 CFR 21.
Bechtel Power Corporation replaced the unverified RELAP-5/ MOD 1 inertial valve computer subroutine with a verified RELAP-5/ MOD 1 servo valve computer subroutine and performed a new calculation using additional design data from the valve manufacturer. The results of this evaluation substantiates the adequacy of the existing design to assure safe operation.
Since the NRC has defined a "significant deficiency" as one having an adverse effect upon, or. likely to adversely affect, the safe operation of the plant, Georgia Power Company has concluded that this event does not constitute a significant deficiency in design or construction.
