Dear Mr. Denton:
The attached three reports regarding the fire detection system at LaSalle were prepared in response to the following two p
items:
1)
Reference (a) identified license conditions in attachments 1.E.1 and 1.F.1.
1.E.1 States:
Prior to exceeding 5% of rated full power operation the licensee shall conduct a review of the adequacy of its fire detector system installation.
This evaluation shall specifically address the number and location of fire detectors, and ventilation effects on the ability of the detectors to sense a fire.
The licensee shall initiate compensatory measures in areas found deficient to assure adequate fire detection capability.
These compensatory measures will remain in place until permanent modifications l
to correct any deficiencies are made to the fire detection system.
1.F.1 States:
Prior to startup following the first refueling outage the licensee shall complete all modifications to the fire detection system identified as being required.

Interim Report No. 1 contains the results of the review of the areas that were originally a concern of the NRC (Reference (c)).
These areas are the AEER (Auxiliary Electrical Equipment Room),
CR (Control Room), and SWGR (Switchgear Rooms) which have continuous ventilation air flows and high numbers of air changes per hour.
For this reason these areas were given high priority for review.
Interim Report No. 2 contains the results of the review for the remainder of the fire areas addressed in the NRC Region III Inspection Report.
