SEMI-ANNUAL EFFLUENT REPORT July - December 1983 Public Service Company Fort St. Vrain Nuclear Generating Station February 1984

1.0 Summary This report summarizes the radiological effluent released from the Fort St. Vrain Nuclear Generating Station for the period July through December, 1983. In addition, Table 3.1 furnishes a general summary of the primary plant systems under radiological surveillance, and Table 4.1 summarizes the solid waste removed from the site during the aforementioned time period. This information is provided pursuant to the tequirements of 10 CFR 50.36 a (a) (2).

Tritium was the radionuclide of principal interest released via ,

the liquid pathway during the second half of 1993. A total of approximately 24 curies of tritium was released to tha unrestricted area via batch and continuous releases. This tritium resulted primarily from removal of moisture from the Primary Coolant System.

S Xenon 133 was the predominant radioisotope released from the

. station via the gaseous waste discharge pathway. Approximately 80 curies were released in the second half of 1983.

. Approximately 12 curies of Xenon 135, 3 curies of Krypton 85 and I curie of tritium were released via gas waste discharges.

No solid radiocative low level waste was removed from the station during this reporting period.

At this time we would like to direct the reader's attention to the following errata, to wit:

1. Table 2.1 of the first Quarter, 1982 report (P-82360) should read as follows for items Id and le:

2. It has been noted that in the~ semi-annual effluent release report for the first half of 1983 (P-83246), the Technical Specification limit for gross beta activity in radioactive liquid effluent was apparently exceeded on several occasions. First, the Technical Specification limit was not exceeded, rather the gross beta activity was all attributable to sulfur 35 activity, which has a higher MPC value than " unknown" radioisotopes. Second, future effluent reports containing this apparent disparity will contain appropriate footnotes for the reader.
