Dear Sir:
Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 LER 83-26 This is to confirm the conversation between Mr. F. Young, Region I, NRC and Mr. M. Nelson, Supervisor Unit 1 Review Program at 1215 hours0.0141 days
0.338 hours
0.00201 weeks
4.623075e-4 months
on September 19, 1983. The event described below was declared reportable at 1100 hours0.0127 days
0.306 hours
0.00182 weeks
4.1855e-4 months
on September 19, 1983.
On September 17 and 18, 1983, all main steam safety valves were tested.
All except one valve lifted above its allowed lift point tolerance of
+1% of the setpoint. The range of the as found setpoints varied from approximately 1 to 29 psig. above the 1% tolerances.
The high setpoints were due to having set the valves in 1981 using incorrect indicated (low) main steam header pressures. This item is considered reportable in accordance with Technical Specification 6.9.2.A.2.
The details of this occurrence and the corrective actions to prevent recurrence will be provided within 14 days.
