Consumets Power Company General offices: 1945 West Parnall Road, Jackson, MI 49201 * (517) 788 0550 September 23, 1983 Dennis M Crutchfield, Chief Operating Reactor Branch No 5 Nuclear Reactor Regulation US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255 - LICENSE DPR PALIdADES PLANT - RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR IMPLEMENTAT10N SCHEDITLE ON THE INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEM Consumers Power Company, by letter dated February 18, 1983, responded to the NRC's December 9, 1982 transmittal which documented the results of the staff's Regulatory Effectiveness Review (RER) for the Palisades Plant. In their lettar, the staff recommended improvements to the Palisades intrusion detection system. Consumers Power Companf letter dated February 18, 1983 expressed our intention to upgrade the intrusion detection uystem. This letter responds to the NRC letter dated May 12, 1983 in which the st.af f requested Consumers Power Campany to submit an implementation schedule for a new volumetric intrusion de.ection system.
Attached is Consumers Power Company proposed impleaentation schedule.
Although we believe that the present system meets the intent of the approved Security Plan ac we n as applicable provisions of 10 CFR 50 and 10 CFR 73, the attached plan represents our best efforts to make prudent system selection while, at the same time, satisfy NRC concerns.
Consumers Prer Company requests that the attachment to this letter be withheld from public disclosure since it conenrns subject matter which is exempt from disclosure in accordance with 10 CFR 73.21(c).
