Subject:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-29 Individual Plant Examination of External Events (IPEEE) Schedule GNRO-95/00026 Gentlemen:

In a letter dated December 20, 1994, (GNRO-94/00148)

Entergy Operations, Inc. submitted the Grand Gulf Examination of External Events (IPEEE) addressing all external events with exception of internal fires.

We cammitted to providing you a realistic schedule for the submittal of the fire portion of the Grand Gulf IPEEE by 3/1/95.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the fire portion of the Grand Gulf IPEEE completion date is now expected to be November 15, 1995.

A meeting of Entergy Operations' facilities was held in January 1995 to compare insights, improvements and assumptions associated with the internal fire analysis in order to critically i

evaluate how these analyses were conducted.

The meeting identified and initiated actions to address several areas of possible over conservatism in the analysis. Additional models are being developed in the area of fire growth and development to reduce the currently perceived uncertaiuties in those areas.

In addition to the time required for model development and the time for analysis required to complete the IPEEE, Grand Gulf's Refueling Outage No. 7, scheduled to begin in April 1995, will j

cause an additional delay of our planned submittal.

Due to the heavy personnel demands during refueling outages, no significant progress on the IPEEE is expected during the outage.
