ATTACHMENT 1 NRC Reauest #1 - IFI#s 94-28-01: 94-28-02: 94-28-03 The schedule for evaluation of several Copes-Vulcan 14 inch, 300#, gate valves (7), a fourteen-inch Westinghouse gate valve, and the active, safety significant priority 1, butterfly valves, using the NRC and industry reviewed EPRI Performance Prediction Program models.

SNC Response SNC intends to apply the EPRI Performance Prediction models to the above valves; however, not all valve models have been issued at this time. SNC will provide a schedule to the NRC for evaluation of the above valves upon receipt of the EPRI methodologies and any necessary vendor information. Any actions and/or modification resulting from the performance of these evaluations will be completed in a timely manner commensurate with the safety significance of the affected component (s).

NRC Request #2 -IFl# 94-28-04 The schedule for resetting the torque switches of the MOVs that marginally or do not satisfy revised thrust requirements.

SNC Response SNC has prioritized the applicable valves based on safety significance and has scheduled retesting as follows:

  • Priority 1 - During next scheduled refueling outage for each unit (1995).
  • Priority 2 & 3 - During the next two refueling outage for each unit (1996 and 1997).

NRC Reauest #3 - IFI#s 94-28-05: 94-28-06: 94-28-07 The schedules for updating MOV setpoint and design documents to reflect revised thrust requirements and thrust output capabilities.

SNC Response The setpoint documents are scheduled for revision as follows:

Unit 1 - Prior to the 13th refueling outage scheduled for September 1995.

Unit 2 - Prior to the end of the 10th refueling outage schedule for March 1995.

NRC Rguest #4 - IFI#s 94-28-08: 94-28-09 Plans for establishing and maintaining margin for potential degradation in the dynamic performance of safety-related MOVs as part of the process for periodically verifying MOV design-basis capability.

SNC_Responsq SNC plans to establish and maintain margin based on the current confidence level achieved through conservative setup practices. In the long term, SNC plans to pursue an industry-wide resolution to this issue.
