SUBJECT:

Waterford SES Unit No. 3 Docket No. 50-382 Potentially Reportable Deficiency No. 123

" Electrical Cable Insulation Values" Final Report

REFERENCE:

Telecon C. Hooper to W. Crossman dated August 18, 1983

Dear Mr. Collins:

On August 18, 1983 a problem with electrical cables installed at Waterford 3, was reported as Potentially Reportable Deficiency No 123. The condition was further described as fusion of the conductor insulation, rendering the insulation values indeterminate. This letter is to inform you that after further evaluation, this condition is not considered reportable pursuant to the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).

EVALUATION Following site visits by Okonite on August 23, and Anaconda on August 26, 1983, samples of the questionable cables were returned to the vendors' facilities for evaluation. The results of these evaluations by both vendors indicate that the cables are normal in all respects and there is no evidence of conductor insulation to conductor insulation fusion. The subject cables are therefore acceptable for use at Waterford 3.
