S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, PA 19406 Gentlemen:

Millstone Nuclear Power Station Unit No. 2 Steam Generator Tube Plugging This letter provides information required by Millstone Unit 2 Technical Specification 4.4.5.1.5.a.

During the 1983 Refueling Outage Inservice Inspection defects greater than the repair limit (40% through-wall penetration) were identified in 2163 steam generator tube ends.

All defects were located within 14 inchen from the top of the tube sheet.

Eleven (11) tube ends restricted eddy current probe entry and could not be inspected adequately.

Seventy-seven (77) tube ends had distorted signals (DTS) which could not be properly evaluated.

Three tube ends were removed for destructive examination.

All tubes not acceptable for continued service were either sleeved or plugged.

A total of 2022 tubes were sleeved and 192 tubes were plugged.

It should be noted that some tubes had defects or other rejectable anomalies on both ends.

Thus the total number of repaired tubes does not equal the total number of defective tube ends.

Yours very truly, NORTHEAST NUCLEAR ENERGY COMPANY
