U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket Nos. 50-282 License Nos. DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 ASME Section XI Inservice Inspection of Longitudinal Seam Welds Not Consistent 1v Performed within the Recuired Time Limits A supplemental Licensee Event Report for this occurrence is attached.
A supplement is being issued to revise a planned corrective action described in the original report. The corrective actions have now been completed and it was determined that one of the planned actions was not beneficial. We had originally stated:
Inservice Inspection component Adentification sketches, nondestructive examination procedures and Inservice Inspection Program documents will be revised to better identify longitudinal seam welds and to more clearly state examination requirements.
We had begun to revise the Inservice Inspection isometries (the component identification sketches). The revised isometrics led to confusion in the field so this effort was discontinued in favor of using a revised Inservice Inspection database in conjunction with revised nondestructive examination procedures as the appropriate corrective actions. Therefore, we are replacing the above corrective action statement with the following:
Nondestructive examination procedures have been revised to more clearly j
state longitudinal seam weld examination requirements; the procedures i
define the extent of examination for cirumferential and longitudinal welds. The Inservice Inspection database now identifies longitudinal seam welds. Together the revised procedures and database will ensure that longitutdinal seam weld examinations are performed as required.
