20555 This special report is submitted in accordance with LaSalle Unit 2 Operating License NPF-18, Appendix A, and Technical Specifications 3.3.7.9 and 6.6.c.

I Technical Specification Table 3.3.7.9-1 requires a minimum number of fire detection instruments to remain operable. On January 24, 1995, at 0230 hours0.00266 days
0.0639 hours
3.80291e-4 weeks
8.7515e-5 months
, the minimum number of required operable detectors for Zone 2-25 had not been maintained, thereby exceeding the 14-day j

timeclock allowed by the Technical Specifications. This Fire Detection Zone is located on elevation 710'-6" in the Unit 2 Diesel Generator corridor, Fire Hazard Zone SC11.

Detectors within Fire Detection Zone 2-25 were taken out of service to prevent spurious alarms caused by work activities (i.e., welding, i

grinding, drilling, etc.) associated with the installation of the Darmatt fire barrier cable tray wrap on the Division 2 Cable Trays located in the Unit 2 Diesel Generator corridor. This fire barrier cable tray wrap was being installed on the subject cable trays as a replacement for Thermo-lag material.

Per the Action Statement requirements of Technical Specification 3.3.7.9, a Fire Watch was established to inspect the affected fire detection zone once every hour while the detectors were inoperable.

This Special Report is required since the detectors were not restored to an operable status withiin 14 days. Detection Zone 2-25 was e

returned to service on February 14, 1995, at 1650 hours0.0191 days
0.458 hours
0.00273 weeks
6.27825e-4 months
upon coupletion of the Darmatt fire barrier cable tray wrap installation.
