Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Unit Nos.1 & 2, Docket Nos. 50-317 & 50-318 Request for Exemption
REFERENCE:
IE Information Notice 84-05; Exercise Frequency Gentlemen:
It has come to our attention that the State of Maryland and affected Counties are planning to implernent the guidance contained in the new FEMA rule concerning biennial emergency exercise frequency. As a result, full participation in the 1984 Calvert Cliffs exercise (CALVEX 84) currently scheduled for September 11,1984, will be limited in that local and state government agencies will not be represented in the exercise.
IE Information Notice 84-05 recognizes that State and local goverments may be planning for the transition from annual to biennal frequency under the FEMA rule and provides that licensees may only conform with the FEMA rule by specific request for exemption from the NRC requirement. Accordingly, we are forwarding a request for exemption from 10 CFR 50, Appendix E, section IV.F.1. a. This request for exemption would only be applicable to the CALVEX 84 exercise.
