Martin dated June 15, 1983 (c) Letter from T. T. Martin to A. E. Lundvall, Jr.
dated July 21, 1983 Gentlemen:
This letter is in response to Reference (c) and provides supplemental information regarding Item B of the Combined Inspection Report.
As we pointed out in Reference (b) we are currently using approved gas vials for waste gas decay tank analysis. To preclude recurrence of the violation cited in Reference (a) several corrective actions have occurred; (1) a memorandum from the General Supervisor-Chemistry was sent to the Chemistry Supervisor with instructions to use only approved gas vials when sampling waste gas decay tank effluents, (2) a change to RCP 1-502, Sampling of Gases'for Activity, has been initiated which delineates step-by-step instructions for obtaining samples using alternate sample container geometries. We anticipate approval of changes to RCP 1-502 no later than September 2, 1983.
The corrective action identified as (1) above, was promulgated as an interim measure to ensure that only approved gas sampling geometries were used for waste gas decay tank sampling until corrective action (2) becomes effective.
Incorporation of corrective action (2) will provide enough flexibility with regard to sampling geometries that we do not anticipate any further violations of a similar nature. Correspondingly, we consider this item closed.
