Dear Mr. Potapovs:
Please be advised that the Hayward Tyler Pump Company will be inspecting the monel shafts that were brought to NRC attention through a 10 CFR Part ?? Report on May 13, 1982.
The tests will be conducted by Hayward Tyler personnel on August 25, 1983 using Procedure 01-009-987 (Attached).
Please advise if you wish to be involved in this examination.

' M Psocedure V:
01-009-987 y-o INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOR TEXAS UTILITIES MONEL SHAFTS - CONTRACT 0173-3911 1.
Clean the shafts with acetone and scotch brite whero necessary to remove all surface contamination.
2.
Visually inspect. shafts for heat numbers and record position of any numbers.
3.
Liquid penetrant examination of all accessible surfaces in accordance with Engineering Standard 7.0.4/1-1 Revision 8.
4.
Record all indications even those within the acceptanco standard of 7.0.4/1-1.
5.
If any stress cracking is picsont determine if it is permissible to climinate them by metal rcmoval, i.e. if in an area where machining would not affect part.
6.
If matal removal is acceptabic, remove approximate 1g 0.005" from surface and repeat steps 1 to 4.
7.
IE cracks remain continue operation 6 until the maximum machining limit is reached or the cracks arc completely removed.
8 Preparc report on existence, position and depth of any stress cracks.
9.
Advise the NRC and rdlevant licencces of any corrective action necessary.
