Dear Sir:
In accordance with Section 6.7.2.A of the Technical Specifications for Cooper Nuclear Station, this letter confirms today's telephone conversation with your Mr. T. F. Westerman concerning an abnormal degradation in the reactor coolant pressure boundary.
On June 29, 1983, during removal of insulation from the six inch Reactor Water Cleanup line for other work in the drywell, two pin-hole leaks were visually discovered in, or near, weld CWA-BJ-2.
A specific course of action for evaluating and correcting this situation is presently being formulated.
A written tollow-up report will be submitted within two weeks and will provide a completc explanation of the circumstances surrounding the event.
