The following information is submitted in accordance with the Federal Regulation requirement that an annual report on the operation of our reactor facility be submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

1. There has been one change in our facility design. Amendment #9 (approvedSeptember 10, 1982) to the Facility Operating License No. R-53 permits (1) an increase from 12 fuel elements in the core to a maximum of 20 and (2) the operation of the core in a flux trap configuration. Currently a flux trap core using the fuel elements is operational.

There were no changes in performance characteristics or operating procedures related to reactor safety during the reporting period. All surveillance tests and inspections were within their normal ranges of approved values or conditions.

2. The reactor was operated 48 times for a total of 387 watt-hours.
3. There were 18 inadvertent scrams for the reporting period.

There were no emergency shutdowns. The inadvertent scrams were the result of either operator errors, noise, accidental trips or noise transients.

4. The reactor fuel elements were recoated during January of 1983.

No other major maintenance operations were performed during the reporting period.

5. There were no major changes to the facility procedures, tests, or experiments for the reporting period.
6. No radioactive effluents were released or discharged to the environs beyond our effective control.
7. No environmental surveys were performed outside our facility.

8. There were no unusually high radiation exposures to the facility '

personnel or laboratory visitors. All the radiation and contamina-tion surveys performed by the Radiation Safety Office were within normal ranges of acceptable values.

9. There were a few changes in our facility organization and personnel.
a. Dr. Charles Terrell resigned as Reactor Director as of 2-11-83.

Dr. Craig Jensen was appointed as Interim Reactor Director on 2-17-83. On 5-16-83, Dr. Craig Jensen was appointed Director i of the Nuclear Reactor.

b. As of 8-1-82 the University hired Dr. Paul Skierkowski as the full-time Radiation Safety Officer for the Norman campus, t Dr. Skierkowski was appointed as a member of the Reactor Safety Committee on 10-1-82.
