Immediately February 6, 1984 484-008 GPU Restructures Nuclear Subsidiary P.oard of Directors Parsippany, N.J., February 6, 1984 - 'Ihe O'. airman of General Public Utilities Corporation (GPU), William G. Kuhns, today announced board ard canagement changes in its nuclear subsidiary, GPU Nuclear Cogoration (GPUNC).

" Starting with the formatico of GPUtC in January 1982, along with the planned changes announced last Nov mber to add three outside directors to the board to comprise a Nuclear Safety and Compliarce Committee, the actions taken today complete the appropriate separation of management of the nuclear organization from other GPU System responsibilities." said Mr. Kulms.

"Accordingly", he continued, "Mr. John F. O' leary, former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy and GPU Board menber since Cctcber 1979, has been elected Chairman of GPUNC. Mr. Philip Clark, president and Chief Operating Officer will asr me the additional responsibilities of Chief Executive Officer. Herman Dieckamp, former Chairman anI Chief Executive Officer of GPU Nuclear since its inception, remains a director of the nuclear l

subsidiary. He continues to hold the positions of President, Chief Operating Officer and a Director of GPU."

Two additional GPUNC Board members, who hold positions within the GPU Service Corporation, have resigned from the nuclear board. This completes the shift in emphasis from a board criginally cocprised entirely of inside members to a planned composite of 7 inside members and 4 outside members, including the Chairman.
