Washington, D.C.

To the FOI Officer: G7Ec t1 /oC V->d This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act as amended (5 U.S.C. 8552).

SAPL wishes to obtain a copy of all data and findings compiled

as a result of an aerial survey of background radiation levels that was conducted by the NRC in the area surrounding the Seabrook Station Nuclear Power Plant. NRC personnel flew in a helicopter from the Pease Air Force Base at some point in time prior to 1983 to gather the aforementioned data.

The FOIA provides that if only portions of a file are exempted from release, the remainder must be released. SAPL requests therefore that it be provided with all non-exempt portions which are reasonably segregable. SAPL reserves its right to appeal the withholding or deletion of any of the material.

SAPL is prepared to pay reasonable costs for the location and reproduction of the requested material. SAPL believes that this request primarily benefits the public and therefore ought to be oligible for a reduction or waiver of fees, however. This information is pertinent to the issue of radiological monitoring adequacy in the Seabrook Station Emergency Planning Zone and it is hence in the public interest that it be released. If you should rule against a reduction or fce waiver, please inform me if the fees will exceed $15 before filling this request.

If there are any questions regarding this request, please do not hesitate to telephone me at the number on the letterhead. As provided in the Freedom of Information Act, I shall expect a reply within ten working days. Thank you for any assistance you may render.

Sincerely, Jane Doughty Field Director cca Robert A. Backus, Esq.
