The Nuclear Regulatory Corrs.Ission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Sirs:

The Minneapolis Star and Tribune for Friday, December 16, 1983 brings out the fact that there is dioxin in several pieces in the United States. Among those listed in the article were the Tittabawassee and the Saginaw rivers in Michigan.

Since dioxin is a carcinogenic compound, it appears to me that it would benoove the Commission to take another look at the Midland Nuclear Plant which will eventually discharge radioaciive material into the Tittabawassee and Saginaw rivers in Michigan.  !

Carcinogenic organic compounds, many have a synergistic effect with radioactivity to increase the chances of getting cancer.

According to Dr. Charles Huver, PhD., a biologist from Harvard University, there are many Instances of carcinogenic chemicals that react with Ionizing radiation.

In view of the above, it seems that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission should take necessary action to prevent the discharge of any radioactive materials into the Tittabawassee River, from the Midland Nuclear Plant then materials will enter the fcod chain and endanger the health and safety of the population

using either the water or fish obtained from the Tlttabawassee and Saginaw Rivers.

Please advise concerning NRC action on these matters. Thank you.

Sincerely,

/ Steve-J.! adler, G P.E.
