Please accept this letter as an interim report concerning a 10CFR50.55(e) event which was reported to your office on August 22, 1978.
During operational testing of motor-operated valves, it was noted that certain valves would not torque out in the closed position.
To date, approximately 25 valves having this condition have been identified.
All are equipped with Limitorque size SMB,-000 operators.
We have determined, with the assistance of Limitorque service personnel, that readjustment of the Belleville springs in the torquing device resolves the problem.- We have concluded that these springs were improperly adjusted at the Limitorque factory.
