Waterford SES Unit No. 3 Docket No. 50-382 Potentially Reportable Deficiency No. 139
" Reactor Coolant Pumps Support Beam, Linear Indications" Final Report On December 16, 1983, a problem with linear indications in the support beams of the Reactor Coolant Pumps was reported as Potentially Reportable Deficiency No. 139. Further evaluation of the previously described condition indicates this condition is not considered reportable pursuant to the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e). Reference telecon erroneously described indications as laminar vice linear.
EVALUATION The initial information, UT test results, was incorrectly evaluated. UT is not suitable for the accurate determination of the size and depth of the indications observed. Seven (7) linear indications exhibiting the most severe
" bleed out" during PT were explored by grinding and subsequent PT, six (6) indications were less than 1/32" in depth and one (1) indication was less than 1/8" in depth. Further exploration was not deemed necessary based on calculations using the 1/8" depth criteria. Based on the foregoing, PRD 139 is not considered reportable pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e).
