Dear Mr. Haynes:
'a This report is to confirm our verbal notification to Mr. Ralph Architzal of your office of the loss of two CEA reed switch posi-tion indicator channels (T.S. 3.1.3.3) at Calvert Cliffs Unit One as required by Technical Specification 6.9.1.8 (Prompt notifica-tion v1 It written follow-up). The event and cause description ara as fo1L2ws.
At 0850 on February 5. 1983 durin's Surveillance Testing, with the Unit at 100% power CIA #26 reed switch position indication errat-ically indicated CEA position between 63" and 146" withdrawn and was declared inoperable. Reed switch position indication for CEA #28 had previously been declared inopersole. At 0945 with two l
CEA read position indicator channels inoperable, action was taken to place the Reactor in Mode 3 as par Technical Specification 3.0.3.
The failed CEA read switch pas.ition indicator stacks have been replaced. All CEA pulse counting position indicator channels re-mained operable throughout the event.
