Dear Dr. Murley:
This letter is in regard to a one-time modification of the 1983 annual retraining for shift supervision involved in the transfer, oackaging and transport of radioactive material as specified in my letter dated September 29, 1979.
Changes pronosed in reculatory recuirements, 1.OCFR Part 20 and 10CFR Part 61, associated with the classification, packaging and shipment of radioactive waste, which became effective December 27 of this year, necessitate revisions to the Peach Bottom Radwaste Procedures.
Incorporating these changes into the training program makes desirable the short deferral of the annual retraining sessions for shift supervision, pending completion and approval of the revised procedures, and incorporating the procedures into 8401240201 831220 PDR ADOCK 05000277 f

It is intended, therefore, to modify our response to IE Bulletin 79-19, for this year (1983) only, to the extent that the Radwaste Supervisory retraining be completed by March 1, 1984 to accomodate updating the training to conform to the new regulatory requirements.
-Between December 27 and March 1, 1984, only personnel who are knowledgeable of the regulations and the revised implementing procedures.will be permitted to supervise radwaste
. classification, packaging and shipping operations.
