NUCLEAR PROJECT 1 APPROVAL TO USE ASME SECTION III EDITION AND ADDENDA

In February 1982 we requested, by the reference letter, NRC approval to use provisions of the 1977 Edition of the ASME Section III Code for components that were fabricated to the 1974 Edition of the code through the summer of 1975 Addenda.

It is our interpretation of Article NCA (NA) 1140 of the code, that NRC approval to use the later provisions of the code, as discussed in the letter, is required. Also, because the Staff requires the right to approve Code Case usage, it seems reasonable that the Staff would also want the right to approve the use of specific provisions of later editions and addenda of the code.

To date we have received no reply to our request, By the end of du:e the contractor involved will have left the WNP-1 site and a negative reply by the Staff to our request after this date will require remobilization of the contractor and extra expense to the Supply System. Therefore, we would appreciate receiving a response to our request by no later than June 18, 1982.
