Mississippi State Department of Health P O. Ilom 1700 - 2423 North State Street I/3I4 2 Alton H p,bM.g..M.P.II.

January 12, 1984 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Comission Washington, D. C. 20555

Dear Mr. Denton:

SUBJECT:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1. Docket No. 50-416, License No. MPF-13, File 0260/L-860.0-NRC-Mississippi correspondence concerning Grand Gulf Technical Specifications (NUREG 0926)

Under the provisions of Public Law 97-415, it is our understanding of the state consultation process that the State will be kept informed and receive copies of applications of any proposed amendment to the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Operating License. We feel that Mississippi Power and Light (MP&L) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) have been expedient with respect to this process.

On behalf of the State, we have submitted written comments to the NRC on certain issues identified in MP&L's applications for license amendments.

These comments were submitted in a timely manner because we felt it more appropriate to allow NRC an adequate opportunity to resolve our concerns.

Regarding our correspondence, we were subsequently contacted by NRC staff and provided an explanation of NRC's determinations and associated explanations.

During the telephone conversations with NRC staff, we were informed that written documentation to this Agency would follow. However, to date, we have not received any correspondence from NRC concerning resolution of our concerns, and are still awaiting your response.

Sincerely yours, k
