Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-29 GGNS Service Water System Operational Performance Inspection (SWSOPI) Final Report GNRO-95/00019 P

Gentlemen:

On September 27, 1994, Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) submitted to the NRC a request for a reduced-scope Service Water System Operational Performance Inspection (SWSOPI) based upon GGNS performing a self-assessment on the Service Water System.

Information provided in that submittal included the assessment plan, the technical review plans, and resumes for the General Physics' team members.

General Physics Corporation, through its Cygna Energy Services Engineering Division, conducted a SWSOPI at GGNS from October 24, 1994 to November 18, 1994.

The inspection was conducted by a six member inspection team comprised of five reviewers from General Physics and one from Cleveland Electric Illurinating Company, which is a member of the BWR 6 Owner's Group (resume provided as Attachment 2).

The SWSOPI final report for GGNS is provided as Attachment 1.

GGNS was found to have implemented the 5 Actions of Generic Letter 89-13.

Programmatic strengths included the Chemical Treatment Program, the Heat Exchanger Heat Transfer Testing Program, Maintenance Programs, and the Small Bore Pipe Examination and Replacement Program.

Also, consistent with IN 94-79, a need to periodically assess a representative sample of the large bore Standby Service Water piping weld joints was identified.

Other miscellaneous observations identified during the SWSOPI l

are discussed in detail in the body of the report.

i GGNS is addressing the observations identified in the final report, and any actions taken will be documented and maintained on site.
