Indian Point 3 Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-286 Security Plan Implementation Schedule

Dear Sir:

Your letter of July 27, 1983 requests the submittal of the Indian Point 3 Security Plan implementation schedule.

The implementation of the revised security plan consists of two basic steps:

the procedural portion and the equipment or hardware portion.

By letter dated June 15, 1983 (IPN-83-60) the Authority informed the NRC that the procedural portion of the revised security plan has been implemented effective May 1, 1983.

To assist in the implementation of the hardware portion of the revised security plan, the Authority has contracted the NUS Corporation to conduct a Site Security System Study and Conceptual Design of Indian Point 3.

This study is scheduled to be completed by November 30, 1983.

The findings of this study will determine which aspects of the intrusion detection system require upgrading.

The upgraded intrusion detection system is anticipated to be installed and operational by October 31, l

1984.

An implementation schedule for the remaining hardware l

items can be formulated only af ter the completion of the NUS study and after considering the further changes that are currently foreseen in the Indian Point 3 security plan.

The l

Authority will submit an implementation schedule for the remaining hardware items, or changes to the security plan, by March 31, 1984 l
