Dear Sir or Madam:
This letter represents a request for documents under the Freedom of Information Act.
The request specifically covers all documents about degradation of fuel assemblies while in spent fuel storage pools at U.S.
nuclear power plants.
I am requesting all docut.ents from 1981 to the present date.
This request includes, but is not limited to, all memoranda, analyses, reports, and internal staff documents regarding degradation of fuel assemblies while in spent fuel storage pools.
For your reference, this request pertains to an incident at the Prairie Island nuclear plant on Dec. 16, 1981, when a top nozzle separated from a fuel assembly while it was being moved in the spent fuel storage pool.
i The fuel vendor, Westinghouse, subsequently performed TV exeminations at the Trojan, Kewaunee, Point Beach, and Zion l
nuclear plants in the spent fuel storage pools.
I specifically request copies of any and all documents Westinghouse might have submitted to NRC about these examinations.
Since this information is being requested for inclusion in a newspaper story leading to education of the public, I request a waiver of all fees pertaining to this request.
If my waiver request is denied, I hereby authorize you to copy $25.00. worth of documents without consulting me further.
If the charge for fulfilling my request is greater than $25.00, please contact me before fulfilling the request.
