Duquesne Light Company (DLC) is responsible for the operation of Beaver Valley Power Station Units 1
and
?.
In December 1994, Westinghouse notified DLC of recent field experience with Alloy 600 the caally treated (TT) mechanical plugs that necessitated a revision to the corrosion algorithm presented in WCAP-12244, Rev. 3 for any Alloy 600 Tr mechanical plugs remaining in service that had not been repaired.
In response to this notification, DLC has verified that this issue does not impact Beaver Valley Units 1 and 2 since the j
installed Alloy 600 TT mechanical plugs in each steam generator have i
been repaired with the Westinghouse Plug in Plug or the Babcock and Wilcox Plug a
Plug devices.
These devices are designed to limit leakage through a
crack in a mechanical plug and prevent plug top release should a crack initiate above the expander and also to anchor the base of the plug to the expander to prevent loose parts should a crack initiate below the expander.
Since the repairs that have been implemented at Esaver Valley Power Station address the concerns detailed in NRC Information Notice 94-87, no additional actions are planned at this time with respect to this issue.
The status of the installed Westinghouse Alloy 600 TT mechanical plugs was previously communicated to the NRC in Reference 3.
