I am a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy (BS), George Washington University (MS), the National War College, the U.S. Navy Advanced Nuclear Power School, and the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power Prototype Tmining.
Early in my naval career, I participated in the startup and operation of the first wave of nuclear submarines. Later, I commanded newer models in f]
classified operations typical of the Cold War era. I also served as the Polaris /
Poseidon / Trident Project Officer, Office of Chief of Naval Operations and later as Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations for matters involving other navies of the Western Hemisphere.
I retired from the U.S. Navy in 1974 and jointed the Southern Company in Alabama Power Company as Manager, Operations Quality Assurance. I was elected Vice President, Power Supply Services, of Alabama Power in 1977, Vice President, Nucicar Generation in 1980, Senior Vice President in 1984, and Executive Vice President in 1988. Concurrently in 1988, I was elected Executive Vice President of Georgia Power and became responsible for the six operating power reactors in the Southern Company.
When The Southern Nuclear Operating Company was incorporated as a subsidiary of the Southern Company, I was elected Executive Vice President and Director of that new company. In 1991, I was elected President and Chief Operating Officer of Southern Nuclear and in 1992 became the Chief Executive Officer. I.ater in 1992, I became Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer and served in that capacity until I retired in Jugg contmued to serve as Executive Vice President of Georg er bompany until my retirement.
