Docket Nos. 50-424, 50-425 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, D. C. 20555 VOGTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT l

S_ TEAM GENERATOR MECHANICAL TUBE PLUGS Gentlemen:

i By Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG) letter OG-94-107 d 'ed December 30,1994, I

certain recommendations were made to the various member utilities by the WOG Issues Review Group concerning Westinghouse (W) Alloy 600 thermally treated (TT) steam generator mechanical tube plugs. Their recommendations included the following:

l l

1. Identify the number of W mechanical plugs manufactured from Alloy 600 TT material present in the steam generators of the member utility that have not been changed out i

or repaired,

2. Provide a reaffirmation that operation of the plant (s) of the member utility with the l

identified plugs, i.e., mechanical tube plugs manufactured from Alloy 600 TT material, does not present a safety issue. The reafTirmation should be based on the response of the member utility to NRC Bulletin 89-01 and its supplements,

3. Provide a commitment to evaluate and assess the impact of Addendum 3 to W WCAP-12244 which is to be issued by W by January 31,1995 on the existing action plan of the member utility for mechanical l'ig corrosion provided to the NRC in l

response to NRC Bulletin 89-01 and its sapplements, and

4. Provide a commitment to issue to the NRC a schedule and revised action plan for the plant (s) of the member utility in addressing the issue of Alloy 600 TT steam generator mechanical plugs thirty (30) days prior to the next scheduled outage.

GeorgiaPower d U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission LCV-0540 Page Two In addition to the above, the WOG Issues Review Group recommended that the NRC be provided a status of the member utility's plant (s) with respect to the use of Alloy 600 TT steam generator mechanical plugs by January 31,1995.

In response to the foregoing WOG recommendations, Georgia Power Company hereby notifies the NRC that neither unit at Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP) currently l

have installed Alloy 600 TT steam generator mechanical plugs. Steam generator mechanical plugs of that particular material type were previously removed and replugged with Alloy 690 plugs during VEGP Unit 1 Outage IR3 (total: 2 phigs) and VEGP Unit 2 Outage 2R3 (total: 4 plugs). Since neither of the VEGP units currently have Alloy 600 TT steam generator mechanical plugs installed. WOG recommendations 2 through 4 are not applicable to VEGP.
