-e LQA8300222 September 16, 1983 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Operating Reactors Branch No. 2 Division of Licensing Washington, D.C. 20555 Attention:
Mr. Domenic B. Vassallo, Chief
Dear Mr. Vassallo:
Subject:
" Ventilation Isolation" Response to NRC Request The purpose of this letter is to respond to a request for information by the District's NRC Project Manager made on August 18, 1983.
Specifically, this request asked for information concerning the ventilation isolation capabilities of the primary EOF.
The Cooper Nuclear Station EOF has ventilation isolation and IIEPA filtration (charcoal filtration is also provided although not required).
The EOF ilVAC system is designed in the normal modo to vary the amount of outside air taken in according to the temperature and humidity of the outside air.
In the emergency mode the HVAC system will isolate (by damper movements) to recirculate inside air with approximately 10 percent outside fresh air brought in via special dampers and ducting through the HEPA/ charcoal filter.
The building exhaust dan.per is automatically modulated to insure positive pressure inside the EOF in order to prevent in-leakage of contaminated outside air.
The HEPA/ charcoal filter is not used in the normal mode of operation.
If you have any questions concerning this submittal, please contact me.
Sincerely, k
l Jay M. Pilant Technical Staff Manager Nuclear Power Group 90 i
