Operability of Purge Valves (B-24) Response Cooper Nuclear Station NRC Docket No. 50-298, DPR-46 As discussed in Reference 1, the District has received eight pages of questions relating to the operability of containment purge and vent valves at CNS. The response to these questions was discussed with the staff, and this letter is written to confirm the District's expected response date.
Based upon a preliminary review of the questions by NPPD and Allis-Chalmers, analytical efforts have commenced which should produce results within approximately 90 days (by December 15, 1983).
At that time the Diatrict will respond to the NRC's questions and provide an expedited schedule for any necessary valve modifications.
Although the preliminary review indicates that analysis alone will determine the necessary modifications, there is a possibility that testing of the valve configurations will.be required.
It is anticipated that the testing program would also take approximately 90 days.
Even if testing is required, it is anticipated that the necessary modifications vould still be completed at CNS during the next refueling outage (anticipated October 1984).
