Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Region I 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, PA 19406 NRC Inspection Report 50-322/83-17 Jet Pump Beams - Item 322/83-17-01 Shoreham Nuclear Power Station - Unit 1 Docket No. 50-322
Dear Mr. Starostecki:
Your letter dated July 8, 1983, transmitted the above referenced Inspection Report which contained a Notice of Deviation citing l
one item of noncompliance.
As of June 21, 1983, no non-destruc-tive tests were performed on the Jet Pump Holddown Beams.
Corrected Steps Taken and Results Achieved Subsequent to the finding, LILCO has contracted with General Electric Apparatus & Engineering Services Operations to perform an ultrasonic (UT) baseline examination of all jet pump holddown l
beams installed in the Shoreham Reactor Pressure Vessel.
The UT examination has not been conducted as of this date.
However, the expected results to be achieved will be to ultrasonically " map" each of the holddown beams and to establish a baseline for reference and comparison during future in-service inspections.
It should be noted that the jet pump holddown beams had pre-viously been detensioned and subsequently retensioned.
These UT examinations will, therefore, be performed on the beams in their present retensioned state.

August 8, 1983 SNRC-949 Page Two Corrective Steps Taken to Preclude Recurrence The cause for this item of noncompliance was explained in LILCO letter SNRC-907 dated June 23, 1983.
Licensing commitments are recorded and scheduled on a Commitment Action Requirements list and the Site-controlled Master Punch List.
In this one instance, for reasons which were delineated in our June 23, 1983 letter, this item had not been scheduled.
Date of Full Compliance The ultrasonic baseline examination of all jet pump holddown beams will be completed and the results analyzed by August 31, 1983.
Very truly yours,
