" Evaluation of BWR Owner's Group Generic Response to Item II.K.3.18 of NUREG-0737, Modification of Automatic Depressurization Systems Logic", dated April 1, 1983
Dear Mr. Denton:
The Boiling Water Reactor Owner's Group (BWROG) position on Item II.K.3.18, which included consideration of ATWS event mitigation in the various modification schemes, was transmitted to the NRC in Reference 1.
The revised proposals have been re-viewed by members of your Staff and the results of that review are contained in Reference 2, namely, options 2 and 4 of Reference 1 are found to be acceptable resolutions to this item.
LILCO, as a member of the BWROG, has consistently endorsed the Owner's Group position on this issue.
Consequently, LILCO in-tends to implement Option 2 of Reference 1, namely, elimination of the high drywell pressure permissive signal and addition of a manual inhibit switch.
These modifications will be accomplish-ed on a schedule consistent with the first refueling outage for Shoreham.
